The charming northeastern Ohio village of Burton, best-known for its March pancake breakfasts, has much to offer visitors throughout the entire year. The summer season has a variety of events, including the June 14th Secret Garden Tour sponsored by the Burton Chamber of Commerce.
That Saturday is a perfect day to drive into town for the garden event. The town square will be bustling with activities and vendors there for those interested in gardening while the Historical Society will host its Bluegrass Festival on the grounds of Century Village, located just across the street from the southern tip of the square.
The Secret Garden Tour will consist of an intimate tour of unique and beautiful private gardens, including an arboretum planted by John Gander, the Honorary Chairperson of the tour. Owners will be at each location to chat and answer questions about their gardens. Also on the tour are several inspirational public gardens such as the Burton Library’s reading garden and a garden at the town spring.
The square will provide visitors with a marketplace specializing in products and services related to outdoor living and gardening. Food will be available throughout the day in the park and at the local restaurants. The Chamber of Commerce will sell tea, lemonade and cookies at the town gazebo. Auction items will be on display for bidding all day. Sunny Sugarbush, one of Burton’s famous scarecrows, will be on hand for the event. Some privately-owned vintage cars will be on display. A storyteller will host children in the library reading garden for story time. Look for the schedule posted on the library lawn.
The event begins at 10 AM and will end at 5 PM. Tickets for the garden tour are $10 each. In case of inclement weather, Sunday, June 15 has been set as the rain date. While attending this celebration of summer, be sure to pick up a calendar of Burton events. Your friends in the country would love to see you again soon!
